Gypsum board is a lightweight board made from building gypsum as the main raw material, mixed with fibers, additives, etc. It is widely used in the interior decoration and structural separation of modern buildings. Its main uses include the following categories:
1. Partition wall system
Gypsum board is the preferred material for constructing non load bearing interior partitions, suitable for zoning in residential, office buildings, shopping malls, and other spaces. Its lightweight characteristics can reduce building loads, construction speed is fast, and sound insulation performance and fire rating can be improved through double-layer or multi-layer panel structures. In areas such as Linyi, Shandong, due to dry climate and high heating demand in winter, gypsum board partitions are often used in conjunction with insulation layers to improve indoor thermal performance.
2. Ceiling structure
Widely used in indoor ceiling projects, especially in living rooms, bedrooms, offices, and other areas. Gypsum board ceiling can hide pipelines, lighting fixtures, and ventilation equipment, achieving a flat and beautiful top effect. By designing shapes such as arcs, layers, and embedded light slots, the sense of spatial hierarchy can be enhanced. In damp areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, moisture-proof gypsum boards should be used to extend their service life.
3. Wall decoration and leveling
Directly used as the base layer for wall decoration, replacing traditional plastering techniques. The surface can be directly coated with latex paint, wallpaper or installed with decorative panels, with a short construction period and high flatness, reducing the risk of cracking. In fine decoration projects, gypsum board walls are the basic carrier for achieving modern minimalist style.
4. Fire prevention and sound insulation structure
Fire resistance performance: Ordinary gypsum board can withstand fire for 1-2 hours, and fire-resistant gypsum board (including fiberglass) can meet the requirements of Class A fire zones. It is commonly used in stairwells, equipment rooms, and public building evacuation routes.
Sound insulation performance: Through the composite structure of "light steel keel+double-layer gypsum board+sound insulation cotton", it can achieve an air sound insulation of ≥ 50dB, suitable for places with acoustic requirements such as residential floor sound insulation, recording studios, hotel rooms, etc.
5. Special functional applications
Moisture resistant gypsum board: used in high humidity environments such as bathrooms and basements.
Waterproof gypsum board: suitable for areas that are prone to moisture, such as kitchens and laundry rooms.
High strength gypsum board: used in areas that require load-bearing or frequent collisions (such as school corridors, hospital wards).
Decorative gypsum board: pre pressed patterns, colors, or textures on the surface can be directly used as the final finish, reducing the need for secondary decoration.
6. Renovation and Restoration
In the renovation of old houses, gypsum boards can directly cover the original walls or ceilings, quickly completing leveling and style upgrades, avoiding demolition and reconstruction, reducing construction disturbance and building waste, and conforming to the current trend of green decoration.
